The maximum of 1800 lbs will be loaded into the Grumman Goose aircraft and the maximum for the Otter is 2300 lbs. Fresh Water Adventures (FWA) can only estimate what your party will weigh, you are the most qualified to estimate your total weight. Groups with their own personal rafts and camping gear normally weigh less than parties with rental equipment. The average per person weight ( weighed as a group) is 200 pounds per person. If you choose to rent equipment, the rental office should be able to supply you with the accurate weight of the rafts and individual pieces of equipment. It is best to overestimate your weight when estimating your costs so you will cover any unforeseen weights such as food and beverages. These can be very difficult to estimate unless you are eating and drinking only dry food products. By estimating your total weight realistically, you may be pleasantly surprised when your party is weighed in at Dillingham. Because the difference
in type of inflatable/kayak you choose
for your adventure varies greatly in
weight and purpose for accessing the
Wood-Tikchik State Park and surrounding
area depends on: The prices, listed below are one-way to that location. Estimate your cost/weight to the lake separate form your pick-up. That way whether you choose to bring big game with you or not, you know what your estimated weight will be. It is very importance to realize the difference between estimating the cost for a recreation/fishing trip and a hunting trip form which you intend to return with big game. The difference of course is the weight. An average caribou weighs about 150 pounds with horns and a moose average weight is about 450 pounds with at least a 50-inch rack. Fresh Water Adventures started a program after the “meat on the bone” regulation came into effect that helps preserve the meat as well as helps hunters cut the cost of air transportation. We call our program the “Trap Line”. We ask hunters in the area's we frequently fly over or near to place a blue tarp (red usually means emergency) on the beach near the camp and place the horns on the tarp if they would like us to stop in and pick up the meat and transport in back to Dillingham. Placing the horns on the tarp helps us identify the type of meat and how many animals we will be transporting. We check our “Trap Line” as often as we can depending on weather and availability of trips that get us in the area. The prices for the “Trap Line” are $300.00 per caribou (2 caribou minimum) and $600.00 per moose. FWA’s landing fee for any reason is $600.00. We don't usually pick up the horns unless the hunter feels that it is necessary to get them out of camp. Depending on what the hunter wants, we can distribute the meat to needy local residents, deliver the meat to Lynden Air Cargo for shipping to a processor in Anchorage. Bill's Delivery Service offers services such as holding meat in a cooler until you return form your hunt to process yourselves. A cutting table and boxes (for a fee) are available to de-bone and box yourself. Check with Bill on cooler temperature, the cooler is not recommended for long term storage. FWA will not be responsible for lost or spoiled meat and capes. All capes will be placed in wet lock boxes (at your expense) clearly marked with your name and license number and placed in our locked freezer. Fresh Water Adventures reserves the right to utilize any capacity of the aircraft not used by the chartering customer. We would also like to remind you that river landings as well as any other pick ups are at prearranged specified locations only. Fresh Water Adventures provides double copy transfer slips for your convenience. A transfer slip must be filled out completely when meat or horns are being transported without the hunter. One copy must escort the meat/horns and one copy must remain with the hunter. The copy that accompanies the meat with the pilot needs to have your instructions written on the back as to what you would like done with the meat. Donated, sent to processor, air freighted/what carrier, stored for 3 to 5 days in our cooler or transferred to Bill's Expediting Service. Satellite telephones are a great tool for coordinating the pick-up of meat in the field. When a hunter has meat they wish to be transported, a call to the office can help in coordinating the effort; otherwise the trap line works when the pilot sees the blue tarp signal and had the time and space to stop. Care for your meat as if it will not be picked up. The trap line system works great, but there are no guarantees that your meat will be picked up on schedule. It depends more on everyone else's schedule, space available and location of destination. The ultimate goal for everyone is to insure no meat spoilage and with good preparation we can avoid such a tragedy altogether.
